UNSOC is one of the requisite elements of a national pre-deployment training for peacekeeping operations. The course is specifically developed for and delivered to Thai and foreign officers who are selected to deploy to peacekeeping missions. It seeks to orient military staff officers on the UNDPKO/DFS approach to peacekeeping operations and equip them with necessary skill set required for performing staff duties in the mission. It further seeks to enable them to;
1. Classroom Lecture will be delivered by Subject Matters Experts (SMEs) as per training programmed. Lecture subjects will be focused on Core Pre-deployment Training Module (CPTM version 2107) and Specialized Training Material (STM) for Staff Officers. Those CPTM and STM SO will be referring to reference from UN Peacekeeping Resources Hub. 2. Classroom Learning Activity. Besides presentation, discussions will be provided and encourage the participants to take part in the various interactive sessions. As research stated that many lessons were learnt during the course of discussion. 3. Integrated Staff Exercise (INSTEX) by adopting CARANA Scenario Exercise, INSTEX will be conducted during the last three days of the course. It will be two tiers aiming to practice function / response of Staff Officers as per changing situations and included major stages of military planning and decision-making process. 4. Extra-Curricular Activities. The foreign participants during their stay in Thailand will have a chance to visitmany local activities such as cultural visit, sightseeing and shopping on different dates and as per the schedule or requested by participants.
30 November – 18 December 2020 : UNSOC is a three weeks course, consisting of lectures / syndicate discussions and map exercises partly together with UN Civilian and UN Police role players. During a final Integrated Staff Exercise (INSTEX), coordination and cooperation among different branches within the headquarters and with other partners in a multidimensional/integrated mission will be practiced by the students in a Force- or Sector Headquarters
